Citizenship classes are available to adults who have an alien registration card, have resided in the United States for at least five years, meet the necessary requirements, and wish to become citizens of the United States.   These classes are for high beginning, intermediate and advanced level ESL students who are preparing to pass the INS citizenship examination.

For ESL learners to gain language, knowledge, and experiences they can use in the community tomorrow.

There are no time limits or prerequisites on ESL classes. Nor is there a time limit for citizenship classes.  The courses are free.

Q: Where are the classes located?
A: Most of the classes are at the main campus of Sutter County One Stop (formerly CTEC) - 256 Wilbur Ave.; Yuba City – but we do have classes in E. Nicolaus, Live Oak, and other sites in Yuba City.

Q: How can I enroll in Citizenship classes?
A: By getting on the waiting list – you will be notified when there is an opening.  You can call Sutter County One Stop at 822-5810, and ask them to put you on the waiting list – or email: prepka@sutter.k12.ca.us

Q: What are the requirements for Citizenship?
A: Must be 18 years of age.
Have been a permanent resident for the past 5 years, with no special circumstances.
Must demonstrate an understanding of the English language, including an ability to read, write and speak … simple words and phrases … in ordinary usage in the English language.
A knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of the history, and of the principles and form of government, of the United States.

In other words, this means that to be eligible for naturalization, you must be able to read, write, and speak basic English.  You must also have a basic knowledge of U.S. History and Government (also known as “civics”).

Q: What are the days and hours for the classes?
A: See the schedule of classes in the on-line catalog.

Q: How long are the classes?  Are they based on semesters?
A: All classes are competency based classes.  That means that when you can demonstrate competency in a subject by completing the assignments, and passing the tests, you will be awarded the credits.  So, the length of time is up to how fast you can do the work.  We don’t work on semester schedules.

Q: Do I have to come to class?
A: Yes – 80% attendance is required in all classes.

Q: What are the fees for classes?  Will I need to purchase books?
A: There are no fees for any Adult Education classes.  They are open to the public.  It is not necessary to purchase any books – we have classroom copies.  Some books are available for purchase, if desired.

Q: Is there Summer School?
A: Yes – for the students that desire a year round schedule.  There is a short break between the end of the regular school year and summer school – and another break between summer school and the beginning of the new school year.

Q: Donde toman cabo las clases?
A: La mayoria de las clases se ofrecen en nuestra escuela en Sutter County One Stop (Antes conocida como CTEC) - 256 Wilbur Ave.; Yuba City – Tambien ofrecemos clases en E. Nicolaus, Live Oak, Y otros sitios en  Yuba City.

Q: Como me matriculo par alas clases de Ciudadania?
A: Al anotarse en nuestra lista de espera –  se le avisara  cuando haiga cupo.  Puede llamar a Sutter County One Stop a 822-5810, para anotarse  – o por correo electronico a: prepka@sutter.k12.ca.us

Q: Cuales son los requirimientos para applicar de Ciudadania?
A: Mayor de 18 años de edad.
Tener que ser residente permanente por los ultimos 5 anos, sin ningunas circumstancias especiales.
Tiene que demonstrar que entiende el idioma de Ingles, incluyendo la habilidad de leer, escribir, y hablar, (palabras simples y frases) en idoma de Ingles ordinario.
Sabiduria y comprension de los fundamentos de las historia y los principios y clase de govierno de los Estados Unidos.

En otras palabras, para ser elebible para Ciudadania, tiene que tener la habilidad de leer, escribir y hablar el Ingles basico.  Tambien tiene que tener sabiduria de la historia basica de los Estados Unidos y el Govierno (que es mas conosido como  “civics”).

Q: Cuales dias y horas toman cabo las clases?
A: Refiera al horario disponible en nuestro catalago en la computadora.

Q: Cuanto tiempo duran las clases?  Estas basadas en semestres?
A: Todas las clases estan basadas en su propia competencia.  Eso quiere decir que cuando usted demuestre competencia en un tema , al completar el trabajo y pasar los examenes, se le ortorgaran los creditos. Asi es de que el tiempo que se toma esta determinado en que rapido usted puede terminar el trabajo.  No trabajamos en horario de semesters.

Q: Tengo que estar presente a las clases todos los dias?
A: Si – se require su presencia por lo menos 80% del tiempo.

Q: Cuanto cuestan las clases?  Ocupo comprar libros?
A: No hay ningun cargo par ninguna clase de Educasion de Adultos.  Estan disponibles para el publico, y no es necesario comprar libros – tenemos copias en el salon.  Algunos libros son disponibles para si quiere comprarlos.

Q: Hay escuela de Verano?
A: So – para los estudiantes que puedan venir a las clases todo en año.  Hay una quebrada corta entre el termino de la escuela regular y la escuela de Verano. Y hay otra quebrada entre la escuela de Verano y el comienzo del Nuevo año de escuela..
