Frequently asked questions for WIA Adult Services

What is WIA?
WIA is an abbreviated term for Workforce Investment Act. The program is federally funded and designed to assist the public with a variety of services. We offer the following:

  • Registered Computer Assisted Job Search under Cal Jobs
  • Research Specific Occupations and Area Employment Opportunities
  • Up to Date Yuba-Sutter Labor Market Information
  • Hot Jobs Information for the Yuba-Sutter area
  • Support Service assistance for those who meet the WIA special program eligibility.
  • Assisted Job Search
  • Job Training for those enrolled in Training Services
  • Follow Up Services up to one year, after you get a job.
  • Resume Building & Critiquing Assistance

In addition, we offer FREE Workshops to the public, titled: Interview to Paycheck and Career Transition

The “Interview to Paycheck” Workshop covers the do and don’ts of the interviewing process, how to market yourself in a job interview, how to identify your transferable skills, grooming, non-verbal cues, how to answer difficult questions with ease, and much more!

The “Career Transition” Workshop is facilitated by the One-Stop’s career counselor who guides customers through the career planning and goal setting process. Customers will be given on-line vocational assessments and then the career counselor will provide one-on-one interpretation of the results. Assessment results will be cross-referenced with careers and occupations that best fit your interest, personality, skills level, education, and labor market demand.

(For more information on our workshops, refer to the Workshop Calendar on our WEB site)

Who Does WIA serve?
Our WIA Program is funded to serve both Youth and Adults. (See Youth Info on our WEB site too). An adult, under our Federal definition is age 22 and older.

Who is Eligible for WIA?
A menu of Basic Services is available to everyone. Under Federal guidelines, some individuals may qualify for additional support and training. To find out if you meet the guidelines, stop by 256 Wilbur, Yuba City or call (530) 822—5120 Ext 0. Ask to speak to a WIA representative.

What if I live in a county other than Sutter?
WIA services are available in each county in California . To find the nearest One Stop located by you, call (530) 822-7145.

What if the WIA office in the county I reside says they cannot help me?
Each county receives WIA funds to provide services to their residents. Availability of Participant Training and Support funds can vary. Everyone is welcome to access our Basic Services.

Will I have to pay back WIA funds?
No. WIA is federally funded and does not require repayment. WIA funds may be available to partner with you in the cost of reaching your career goal.

Can I be enrolled in WIA if I have an open Worker's Compensation Case?
You can access our Basic Services, but would not be eligible for our enrolled services. Worker's Compensation services and WIA are considered alike services and would be seen as duplication of funds.

Am I eligible for WIA services if I am receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits (UIB)?
Yes. If you are receiving UIB and do not plan to return to your previous job due to business layoff, you should check out what Sutter County One Stop can do to assist you.

Am I eligible for WIA services if I am working?
Yes, you may utilize our Job Central office to update your resume, job search on the computers, and attend our Workshops (see Workshop Calendar on the WEB). The Sutter County One Stop staff will work with you on special eligibility requirements for other WIA services.
