“To One Stop in Yuba City,
I would like to take a moment to thank the wonderful staff at the EDD office on Wilbur Ave. I have been coming here for at least five weeks in a row, four to five times a week. Everyone was so polite and professional as well as courteous and helpful. Monica and Bobby even remembered my name after a couple of days. Sandy and Armando were very helpful and willing to help even when I was o.k.
I have found that most people who work for the state just want the check and lose sight of the reason for their position……to help people! I was in awe of the way the staff here takes pride in helping out everyone who walks in that door! Kristy was one of the people who showed concern when I told her of my situation and made some helpful suggestions to make sure I accomplished my goal of finding not just work, but a job where I can grow and put all my skills to work to help my employer (when hired). Tamara was helpful when I thought I blew up the printer (her and Sandy both) and didn’t give me any crazy looks, which is a good thing because some places will make you feel bad about something that you didn’t mean to do.
In closing, I would like you to know that thanks to these outstanding individuals, I have landed a job in my career path with a large law firm in Sacramento, that will allow me to finish my A.S. in Paralegal Studies and advance within the firm and receive monetary help while I continue my education. It has not been easy for me since I moved to Sacramento from Los Angeles in August 08 but the staff at One Stop made it a little easier to cope with my situation.
Once again thanks to all of the people at One Stop E.D.D., keep doing what you’re doing and you all will be blessed with peace and happiness!”
Sincerely,
Mr. Roscoe J. Morris |

“Hello! My name is Suzanne Center. I taught pre-school for eight years, and felt that it was time for a career change. I did my research, and found out that Sutter County One Stop has a Medical Assisting class offered, as well as many other exciting career classes. I decided to join the MA class, and was fortunate enough to have Araceli Gonzalez as my WIA counselor. With her help, WIA paid for all of my MA books; it was such a financial blessing. I absolutely LOVE the MA class. The MA teacher, Geneva Vargas, goes above and beyond for each and every student. I would recommend Sutter County One Stop to anyone wanting to go to school (or back to school). Sutter County One Stop is so much closer than Yuba College, and the WIA program helps to make it affordable. The staff members are always so friendly and eager to help!”

"I started taking classes at Yuba Community College to apply for the AND Nursing Program. With the help of WIA funding and guidance of Araceli Gonzalez, I was able to graduate in December 2008. WIA helped me acquire the needed books and supplies to achieve my goal of becoming an RN and working in the Yuba-Sutter area."

"I was first introduced to the One Stop WIA program during my second semester. This program has been very beneficial to my educational goals in the Butte College A DN program. The WIA program has provided me with books, shoes, uniforms, medical instruments and a variety of other tools toward my success. This program is very important for the success of the individuals, and we as a community need to support this phenomenal program. I really needed the assistance of the program because I went from being a full time employee to working one day a week. Being the breadwinner of the house, this caused me to have financial problems and many sleepless and worrisome nights. This program saved me. Lastly, I would like to thank the One Stop Staff for always being there for me."

| Meloney Turpen |
Meloney Turpen is living proof that perseverance does pay off! Meloney came to the One Stop in 2009 after getting accepted into the special 11-month full-time LVN Program. The program was funded through our agency using special stimulus funds. Meloney was 1 of 15 students hand selected to participate in this intensive program. Meloney started class on July 10, 2010 and attended 5 days a week, Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. This was followed by 4 hours of homework daily. She received outstanding marks and had great attendance. Meloney was able to successfully complete the course and graduated on June 24, 2010! She will take her state board examination for licensure sometime in August in order to work as a LVN. I have no doubt in my mind that Meloney will pass the exam on the first attempt. Congratulations! |

| Shannon Abbott |
All of Sutter County One Stop clients are successes waiting to happen! By helping them to bring out their successful qualities and attitudes, they are able to help themselves. Shannon Abbott proved this to be true! She came to us for help in getting a job, attended the Interview to Paycheck Workshop and met with a Counselor. She began her job search and as the weeks passed by, she realized that finding a job in this economy would take a whole new approach. Shannon changed her perspective and decided to market her existing skills to employers, instead of emphasizing the skills she lacked. Shannon is now employed and gives 110% to each and every task that is assigned to her. |

| Darla Hanks |
Darla Hanks came to the Sutter County One-Stop in the Summer of 2008, inquiring about services offered through the Workforce Investment Act Program (WIA). She had been working as a Bookkeeper for a construction company for the past 8 years. However, due to the downturn in the economy, the business closed and Darla found herself without employment. Because she hadn’t been using all her clerical skills, Darla felt that an upgrade of these skills would make her more marketable as a new job seeker. She expressed interest in the ROP classes offered at the One Stop. After exploring the various courses that were offered, Darla settled on the Office Technology class. She proved to be a very diligent student and always had excellent attendance. Darla earned Certificates of Achievement for Microsoft Word 2007, Business English, Microsoft Office Computer Applications and Office Technology.
At the end of January this year, Darla accepted a temporary Data Entry position at the American Red Cross-Three Rivers Chapter, here in Yuba City. She performed her duties so well that the CEO offered her a permanent position as a Chapter and Business Operations Assistant. Since this new position would require many more duties than she had been performing, the WIA program assisted the employer by offering an On-the-Job Training for Darla. In her new position, she now performs many important duties including working with the volunteers, compiling daily reports, partnering with each department to ensure that services are being met, and she handles many other responsibilities. We are so very proud of Darla and all she has accomplished! |

| Adrian Metcalf |
Adrian Metcalf arrived at the Sutter County One Stop and was willing to work with our offices along with Employment Services in an effort to explore all resources available for his employment success. While in his ‘job search’ mode, he visited businesses’ where he desired to work. Adrian is highly motivated, professional, and possesses a warm, inviting demeanor. He allowed our staff to dive into his strengths and talents and be in a position to trust us with his personal information in order to keep the application process moving forward. In this process, Adrian became a part of our applicant pool in the middle of September 2009 and in mid October 2009 his application was submitted to the Three Rivers Chapter, American Red Cross for their Business Operations Coordinator position. Within 3 days of Red Cross receiving Adrian’s application, they interviewed him and hired him for the position! We had been working with Adrian on a Work Experience process, and then he rolled into an On the Job Training and now he officially holds the title of Business Operations Coordinator for the Three Rivers Chapter, American Red Cross! He is utilizing his office strengths, professional manner and winning personality and truly contributing to the Yuba Sutter area in the role he is serving at the Red Cross! Beautifully done Adrian! |

| Juana Gonzalez |

Juana Gonzalez was so impressed with how the Sutter County One Stop helped her in creating a resume, assisting with job search techniques and suggestions that she wanted to express her appreciation to our agency. | Christopher Smutny |
Christopher Smutny came to the One Stop in April of 2009. He had recently been laid off as a railroad conductor and was looking for work to no avail. While job searching, he saw several openings for railroad engineers, and decided to look into obtaining additional training to become an engineer. He visited Modoc Railroad Academy in Sacramento and was accepted into their 6-month long Railroad Engineer Program. Even though Christopher was awarded financial aid and a scholarship to cover his tuition, he still needed to pay for his books and other supplies; WIA was able to assist him with those expenses. Christopher successfully completed his training in December and is currently looking for work. He is very determined and motivated and has already had a couple of interviews thus I am confident that he’ll soon find a job. Good luck, Christopher! |

Deidre was 1 of 15 students selected to participate in this intensive program. Deidre attended class Monday thru Friday for at least 8 hrs a day, followed by 4 hours of homework daily. Deidre also managed to balance her home life (taking care of her husband and child) with her school life. Deidre successfully completed the course and earned a certificate of completion. | Lisa Bordenkircher |

Lisa Bordenkircher first came to the Sutter County One-Stop in July, 2007. She had just been accepted into the RN program at Yuba College and was inquiring about the services that the WIA program could offer her. Due to her circumstances Lisa needed additional assistance with the associated costs of the program and, through WIA, received her books, uniforms, supplies, testing fees and other necessary items for the 4-semester program. With much perseverance Lisa received her Certificate of Completion this past May, and then went on to pass her State Exam and receive her RN license. Before Lisa even graduated she was offered a fulltime position with Fremont Medical Center, where she continues to be employed. Congratulations to Lisa for her hard work, positive outlook and grateful attitude! |
