"I was first introduced to the One Stop WIA program during my second semester. This program has been very beneficial to my educational goals in the Butte College A DN program. The WIA program has provided me with books, shoes, uniforms, medical instruments and a variety of other tools toward my success. This program is very important for the success of the individuals, and we as a community need to support this phenomenal program. I really needed the assistance of the program because I went from being a full time employee to working one day a week. Being the breadwinner of the house, this caused me to have financial problems and many sleepless and worrisome nights. This program saved me. Lastly, I would like to thank the One Stop Staff for always being there for me."

"My name is Belinda Chamness and I am a former student in the Medical Assisting program at the Sutter County One-Stop. When I first began the program, I was a displaced housewife and was very nervous about re-entering the work field. I had not worked outside the home in almost twenty years. With the assistance of my WIA counselor and instructor, my experience in the Medical Assisting program has been a very rewarding chapter in my life. I have been privileged enough to learn and grow in the medical field and as an individual. These experiences in the medical field have given me confidence in myself and shown me that I can accomplish anything. Two weeks after completing my training I became employed as a full time Medical Assistant. I am very thankful for the opportunity to attend the Medical Assisting program and will never forget the value of my education and the opportunity to become independent."

"Sometimes names of companies or organizations can say a lot about them. Little did I know about “One Stop” but they called me after learning that I was in the nursing program. They wanted to know if they could help me realize my goals. This came as a great surprise for me. I really needed books since they are so expensive. When I went there I realized it was real and I was not the only one being helped. There were a lot of people with different backgrounds and problems that needed help. Each one was assigned a different counselor and so was I. They told me abut WIA which helped me with text books and scrubs. All my worries were taken care of. I was so happy to get their help and I thought they were done with me after I graduated but they still wanted to see to it that I get the job. To cap it all, they paid for my NCLEX, bought scrubs for my new job and still asked the question “if there is anything we can do for you let us know”. Wow!! This is One Stop for me. They give true meaning to their name. I recommend this organization to anyone like me in Sutter County. Thank you to my counselor “Araceli” and all in this organization. Keep your good work up."

"After much speculation about Mervyn’s going bankrupt, I decided to change careers. I entered the Medical Assisting course here at the Sutter County One Stop with much support from my WIA counselor, Mady Kawahara. She went above and beyond for me to start the course prepared with the necessary equipment. I thank all of the staff at the Sutter County One Stop for helping me get a career as a Medical Assistant."

“My family business closed due to economic times. Some friends of mine told me to move from Red Bluff to Yuba City because there are more jobs in a bigger city. I found it to be true, but there are more people looking for the same job. I opened the newspaper and saw the ad for One Stop. I came down and met with Tamara. I thought I was prepared until then. She showed me where my mistakes were on my resume and gave me reassurance. Three weeks later I am hired. Thank you One Stop and a big hug and thank you to Tamara.”

“I felt very much welcomed and valued as a new client in your offices. Tamara took a lot of time finding out about my background and what I needed in my job search. I recommend this office to anyone that needs a starting place in their job search.”

“When I was informed that I was going to be laid off I realized I was being offered the opportunity to finally make a change and pursue a career I had a passion for. That’s when I turned to Sutter County One-Stop for help. I enrolled in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program, which helped me pay for some of my expenses for retraining. My WIA counselor, Mady, was very supportive along the way and helped me to maximize my benefits to their fullest. I enjoyed the challenge of learning new job skills and the knowledge that came with it. I look forward to completing my certification and excited to begin my new career as a Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant. Thank you Sutter County One-Stop, and especially Mady, for your help and support along my new journey.”

“My experience at the One Stop has been wonderful! For the first time ever in my life, I actually look forward to going to school! I have been taking GED and ROP Business, and I have learned more than I ever thought I would in a short time! My instructors, Vicky Katten-Perez and Betty Mack, have been awesome and, if it wasn’t for Mady being there for me, I don’t know what I would have done as far as by books, bus pass, and even my work clothes go! Thanks to the whole One Stop and Job Central staff. You guys are awesome!”

“When I became unemployed after twenty two years of steady employment, I really did not know what I was going to do. I fortunately was re-introduced to the Sutter County One Stop. You see, 14 years ago it was the One Stop who helped me get into Dental Assistant School. Now, 14 years later, here I am again. This is an excellent place to go for all your job searching needs. The staff here helps you with anything from how to interview for a job, resumes, and they even have clothes for people who need them. They go above and beyond their job requirements to help you. I know Sandi and Maria, you guys are awesome.”
THANKS,
Leslee Rickel

Success Stories |
| Jessie Sanchez |
Let me take this opportunity to share a true success story about my customer Jessie Sanchez. Jessie had been volunteering as a Work Experience customer at a local networking company called Alliant Networking Services, Inc. in Yuba City. While placed at this unpaid worksite, Jessie was learning new skills, sharpening his current skills, and building a professional relationship with this businesses’ customer base. Jessie performed his duties both professionally, and efficiently. Jessie offered the true meaning of customer service to his client base. Not long after Jessie was placed in this work experience environment, the employer was able to hire a new employee to add to their team of experts; Jessie was offered that position, and is now employed full time as a P.C. Technician.
Jessie continues to update his skills on a regular basis. He is currently completing the second half of his A+ Certification testing to become a Comp TIA A+ Certification technician. As Jessie continues to upgrade his skills, he also becomes a more reliable, valuable, and talented team member for his employer.
Congratulations Jessie, you are a true success! |

| JoAnna Tapia |
JoAnna Tapia’s can-do attitude definitely paid off! She was accepted and enrolled in the 11-month full-time LVN class that was sponsored by a special governor’s grant designed to get more trained nurses out in the workforce. JoAnna attended the LVN program Monday thru Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On top of that, JoAnna had to complete 4 hours of homework on a daily basis. She passed the classroom theory and clinical portion of training with flying colors. She did all of this while taking care of her 3 boys. JoAnna successfully passed the LVN state board examination for licensure on the very 1st try. She has obtained full-time employment as a LVN with Colusa Regional Medical Center. JoAnna loves her job and enjoys going to work. She does an excellent job interacting with her patients and co-workers! JoAnna is truly an inspiration to all of us! |

| Joe Bernal |
When Joe began using the resources in Job Central to look for new employment opportunities, he was struggling financially and becoming frustrated with his job search efforts. Joe knew he had marketable skills; however, he also had some employment barriers that would ultimately narrow down his job search perimeters. To help Joe showcase his skills, he was introduced to our assessment tool system to allow him the opportunity to prove his skill set to potential employers. Joe completed several of Sutter County One Stop’s Prove It assessments to document his skill level. With hard work, determination, and a rejuvenated outlook, Joe soon obtained employment.
While employed, Joe continued to upgrade his skills, and recently obtained his HVAC certification. Joe has shown that treating job search as a full time job, truly pays off in the end. Successfully employed, new certifications, and a positive attitude!
The Sutter County One Stop is proud of Joe’s accomplishments, and wish him continued success in his future. |

| Pardhip Sahni |
Pardhip Sahni is the first East Indian male to graduate from the Registered Nursing program at Yuba College, he graduated in May 2009. What influenced Pardhip to go into nursing, a predominantly female occupation? According to Pardhip, there were a couple of factors that led him to choose nursing as his career choice. Pardhip’s background was in customer service, he loves to help people. At the same time, he wanted a career where he could grow professionally and have a career that is respectable and dynamic; therefore, he decided to become a registered nurse. The 2 plus year program was challenging as Pardhip had to overcome stereotypes and obstacles due to being one of the few males in the field, especially when working in certain specialties. However, his family was very supportive, and his co-workers where all professionals helping him to be successful. And true to his word, Pardhip wants to keep on growing in the medical field, he is already planning on being a California Registered Nurse Anesthetic (CRNA), and I would not be surprised if he doesn’t stop there. Congratulations and good luck, Pardhip! |

| Valerie Ramos |
Valerie Ramos has been a Job Central client since August of 2008. She had worked in an office environment in the past. She was working at a distribution center when she had to take time off due to a non-related job injury. She was not able to return to her old job. After enrolling with the WIA Program, we began the process of working on Valerie’s resume and/or cover letter, made her an applicant pool candidate, explained the Job Central room resources to her and etc.
Several weeks ago a position became available working at the Sutter County One Stop in the youth program. By this time, Valerie had been coached by our team on the process of getting a job. She has great interpersonal qualities, of which some were difficult to put into words. Valerie already possessed several essential attributes to becoming employed—she displayed poise, confidence, and an ability to make others feel at ease. |
