Workability II Program Overview
Workability
II, enacted in the Fall of 1985, was designed to enhance collaboration
between the State Department of Rehabilitation and Education and is established
as the first official cooperative program between these two agencies. The
program operates from Adult Schools and
Regional Occupational Programs in conjunction with local DR offices to
provide a blending of vocational services to adults who meet acceptance
requirements. There are currently 18 projects operating statewide from
a combined funding base provided through the State Department of Rehabilitation
and local Educational agencies. Our local program has been in operation
since 1991.
Workability II serves referrals from
the Department of Rehabilitation and provides personalized job placement
services and training assistance. The WAII Specialist assists clients in
meeting a goal determined by the client and Rehabilitation counselor.
Some
of the services that are provided are:
Job
Seeking Skills
Resume Writing
Interviewing Techniques
Application Preparation
Individualized Job Placement Services
Workshops
WAII provides a
system of ongoing support through a partnership with the Workforce Investment
Act (WIA), Regional Occupational Programs (ROP), and the California Department
of Rehabilitation for adults to reach self-sufficiency and attain employment.
You
will also receive follow-up services to assure a successful relationship
exists between our agency, the employee, and the employer. Employers are
eligible for Federal and State tax incentives from hiring Department of
Rehabilitation clients. The Department also has an On-the-job training
allowance that encourages employers to hire individuals with disabilities.
There
is no cost to participants for these services. If you are interested in
seeing how the Department of Rehabilitation can assist you, there is an
Orientation every Tuesday at 9 a.m. Space
is limited so reserve a seat by calling Linda Baker,
WAII Specialist at (530) 822-5120 ext.3026.
