• Do read the application carefully before completing.

• Do use a blue or black ink pen. Don't use colored ink or pencils.

• Do remember to print. Don't write in cursive.

• Do fill out the application neatly. Make sure it is free of wrinkles, dirt, marks, cross-outs, etc…

• Don't use white out. Ask for two applications, just in case you make a mistake on the first one.

• Don't ever put down that you were fired from a job.

• Do remember to sign and date the application.

• Do review the application after you fill it out. Check for spelling errors, neatness, and to make sure you have filled out the entire form.

• Do dress appropriately when you pick up and drop off the application. Do not bring your friends with you.

• Do follow up with the business on the status of your application if you do not here from them.

Helpful Hints:

Proofread the application:
  • Check for spelling errors.

  • Make sure you did not leave any blank spots.

  • Be sure you signed the application.

  • Attach your resume and cover letter.

Follow-up
•After you turn your application in, call or visit the business about one week later to see what the status of your application is. Following up with the employer is essential in today’s job market. Many business owners are so overwhelmed taking care of their everyday business responsibilities that they may not spend the appropriate time reviewing the applications that have been submitted. Following up on the status of your application demonstrates that you have initiative, a quality all employers look for.  Not only will that person take note of your continued interest in the position, but it will help to give you an edge over the other applicants.
