Relay Service Empowers Deaf Graduates to Compete for Employment
Sorenson Communications®, provider of Video Relay Service (VRS) for deaf individuals who use sign language to communicate, today announced the launch of a new career training program for deaf and hard-of-hearing high schoIMAGEol students.  Sorenson Communication is trying to teach students how to be more effective when searching for a job by utilizing their cell phone or PDA’s.  Potential employers are able to contact a deaf or hard of hearing person even when away from their home videophones.   The deaf individual can either return a text message suggesting a time for a follow up VRS call or can establish the job interview time and date on the spot.  If the student is offered the job, he or she can request that the employer install a videophone in his or her workplace so communication with hearing contacts and associates in distant locations is easy and "functionally equivalent" to hearing individuals' communication with a telephone. There is no cost to the employer.
